چکیده
We show that two superimposed time-and-space-domain holograms in a persistent spectral hole-burning material can produce destructive interference, even if the path-length difference of the writing beams is constant. The cancellation of the amplitudes in the 21 diffraction order occurs when the two holograms have specially chosen spectral envelopes that represent a pair of complementary functions. By controlling the spectrum of the holograms we are able to perform coherent subtraction and addition of images.

Holography in frequency-selective media. III. Spectral synthesis of arbitrary time-domain pulse shapes
We study theoretically and experimentally the synthesis of arbitrary time-domain pulse shapes, using short laser pulses scattered by holograms stored in a spectrally selective hole-burning material. In general, writing holograms in spectrally selective materials results in cross talk and interference between different frequencies because of Kramers–Kronig dispersion relations. We discuss differ...
متن کاملSpectral phase encoding for data storage and addressing
Holographic materials are well known for their ability to record phase laws, and holograms can act as phase filters. Moreover, many holograms can be recorded in the same sample. These properties have been used for data storage. One problem is to retrieve selectively each piece of recorded information without any cross-talk effect. Cross-talk effects can be avoided by use of various methods. The...
متن کاملSpectrally formulated finite element for vibration analysis of an Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation
In this article, vibration analysis of an Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on a Pasternak-type foundation is studied. The governing equation is solved by using a spectral finite element model (SFEM). The solution involves calculating wave and time responses of the beam. The Fast Fourier Transform function is used for temporal discretization of the governing partial differential equation into a se...
متن کاملQuantum Interference Control of Ballistic Magneto- resistance in a Magnetic Nanowire Containing Two Atomic- Size Domain Walls
The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...
متن کاملHybrid femtosecond/picosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering for gas-phase temperature measurements
Hybrid femtosecond/picosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (fs/ps CARS) is employed for quantitative gas-phase temperature measurements in combustion processes and heated flows. In this approach, ultrafast 100-fs laser pulses are used to induce vibrational and rotational transitions in N2 and O2, while a third spectrally narrowed picosecond pulse is used to probe the molecular response...
